Forrest is one of the suburbs of Canberra located south of the Capitol Hill.
This area is named after Sir John Forrest, one of the fathers of the Australian Constitution and houses several attractions for tourists to visit.
One of the places to visit in Forrest is the Collins Park which is set in an almost tear shaped landscape.
It is strategically located, featuring a circular road surrounding it providing an intersection for every road going in its direction.
Inside the park, tourists will be enveloped in a quiet and serene atmosphere distinct from the bustling city outside.
Tourists may be surprised to find peace and quiet in a capital city, however, the parks in the city are included in the original plan making it one of the city’s unique feature.
While inside the park, tourists will enjoy the tranquillity provided by the lush green landscape, manicured lawns and the sound of the bustling leaves.
The park is an ideal venue for small picnics or for just ordinary bushwalking.
The manicured lawns can double as a play area for children so there is something to do for everyone in the family.
While in Forrest, tourists can also visit the Serbian Orthodox Church which is located on the National Circuit.
The church is just a plain rectangular shaped building with a semi circular sanctuary and a bellcote on the roof top.
What makes this church worth visiting are thirty four oil paintings adorning the its’s walls and ceilings by Karl Matzek.
The paintings reflect religious and historical events set in traditional Serbian iconography.
In addition to the paintings are the gold leaf outlines in between the ceiling and walls.
The suburbs of Forrest also house a cafe famous for its hearty breakfasts and atrium garden setting.
The Fig Tree Cafe of Rydges Capital Hill Canberra serves Australian if not continental buffet seven days a week and delectable seafood cuisine on Fridays.
Forrest, Canberra is also known for the many accommodations providers it houses.
These accommodation providers are the best place to base in for tourists who wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of Canberra’s central business district.
In addition, tourists are offered comfortable units and superb services but without the price tag since these accommodations are located in the suburbs.
Although the Capitol Hill is not part of Forrest-located just off the borders of the suburb, those visiting should head there and see the Parliament House with its very high flagpole.
The interior of the Parliament House is also a site to see.
Different Australian artworks are incorporated on the interior and a theatre is also available for tourists who wish to know more about the history of the Australian democracy.
The view of Lake Burley Griffin from the Capitol Hill is stunning as well.
The Lake Burley Griffin is a man-made lake and is named after the American architect of the city.
For sports enthusiasts, the lake is very much ideal for paddling boats or kayaking.
Otherwise, tourists can just enjoy a leisurely picnic on the banks of the lake.
