Deakin is one of Canberra’s districts located south west of Capitol Hill’s Parliament House.

The Latrobe Park which is surrounded by Melbourne Avenue, Stonehaven Crescent, Gawler Crescent and Bedford Street is named after Victoria’s Charles Joseph Latrobe.

The park was originally developed to offer a wide range of activities for every age group available for both the Deakin community and tourists.

Their coffee is just as good making them very famous among the Deakin community and to tourists.

Aside from breakfast meals, the cafe also serves lunch.

Tourists can converge at the cafe for a leisurely lunch especially after a morning of touring.

Another option available for tourists is the Palette Cafe with its sunny courtyard setting.

They serve lunch during weekdays and brunch on weekends.

Their cuisine offerings are among the best in Canberra and will simply take diners beyond the plate.

While in Canberra, a tour will not be complete without a visit to the Parliament House at Capitol Hill.

Although not a part of the Deakin district, it takes only just a couple of minutes drive to get there.

The Parliament House has some of the finest art collections incorporated into its interior.

Outside, the view of the Lake Burley Griffin offers tourists a feeling of tranquillity in contrast to the majestic Parliament House.

Though there is no significant open space or park within Deakin, the shores of the Lake Burley Griffin are located a short drive away where there are large spaces for picnics and hiking.

Families also come to the nearby Weston Park, where there are facilities for barbecue and playgrounds for children.

For sports enthusiasts, the Lake Burley Griffin is an ideal venue for padding boats or for kayaking.

Otherwise, tourists will enjoy a leisurely picnic on the banks of the lake.
